General information


Avimimus which means "bird mimic" was named by the palaeontologist Sergei M. Kurzanov 1981. This small birdlike dinosaur lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous period.
It had large eyes, a toothless beak and long legs. Because of its beak, it has been suggested that Avimimus was an insect-eater. Avimimus may have had feathers, although some palaeontologists don't agree with that.
