Archaeopteryx lithographica, London Specimen
This is the holotype of Archaeopteryx lithographica, type species of Archaeopteryx, BMNH 37001. This specimen is
distinguished by its well-preserved braincase in 3D, and by the detailed
feather impressions around the bones (which were scattered and hardly in a
cohesive articulation). It also has a very large hallux, which is shown
positioned in opposition to the others rather than facing towards the side
as Middleton suspects, for the sake of comparison. Compared to other Archaeopteryx, it also has the straightest ischium
and most of the vertebrae are longer compared to the femur than other
specimens. Image Copyright © 2005 Jaime Headden. All Rights
