Archaeopteryx Specimens
A comparison of seven specimens of Archaeopteryx.
The London, Berlin (holotype) and Maxberg (A. lithographica) specimens are mid-sized. The
Solnhofen specimen (called Wellnhoferia grandis by Elzanowski) is the largest, with the
Haarlem (or "Teyler") specimen a close second (areas in grey are
impressions rather than preserved bone). The London is the third largest,
but there is a clear differentiation in size between the Haarlem and
London, as shown here. The München (Munich, A. bavarica) specimen is the second smallest, after
the Eichstätt, which is at the bottom left (called Jurapteryx recurva by Howgate).
