Afrovenator which means "African hunter" was named by the
palaeotologists Paul C. Sereno, J. A. Wilson, A. Larsson, Didier B. Dutheil and
Hans-Dieter Sues in 1994.
Afrovenator was a carnivorous dinosaur
living in Africa during the Cretaceous period. At that time, the Sahara where it
had been found was not a desert but a place with forests and rivers. Its jaw had
blade-like teeth and it had three fingers.
