Allosaurus fragilis(hip bone)Photo by Mike Brett-Surman
Catalogue number: USNM 2323 This is the saurischian (reptile-hipped) pelvis found in sauropods and flesh-eating dinosaurs. It is an example of one of the two kinds of pelvic structures in dinosaurs. The other kind of dinosaur pelvic structure is ornithischian (bird-hipped). The pelvis shown here is one part of a larger specimen that also provided the jaw for our full exhibit mount of Allosaurus (USNM 4734).
