Caza's Amarg Lizard
Amargasaurus cazaui
(Salgado & Bonaparte, 1991)
Amargasaurus cazaui, 12 meters long,
is small sauropod compared to the tremendous Argentinosaurus that
share this sauropod's South American environment. A close relative of
Dicraeosaurus, Apatasaurus
and Diplodocus, A. cazaui's phylogeny is made clear by
its long, whip like tail, its flattened head, and its tall, paired neural
spines. A. cazaui is notable, however, in that its neural spines are
developed to the extent that they extend outside the skin where they form a
prickly mane of bone.
Thanks to Sam Barnett for advise as to the use and apperence of
the spines on the neck of Amargasaurus.
