Unexpected Beipiao-Lizard

Beipiaosaurus inexpectus

(Xu, Tang & Wang, 1999)

Beipiaosaurus inexpectus is a rather small and primitve therizinosaur.  Like its kin, it is covered with feathers, but it has only the beginnings of the prodigious pot-belly of the more advanced therizinosaurs.  Also, B. inexpectus has only three large toes and a reduced hallux (forth toe) that, in other therizinosaurs, supports weight as well ( Keesey ).
