Catalogue number: USNM 7951 Collected in Glacier County,
Montana, in August, 1913, by Charles Gilmore's
expedition. Cretaceous Period, about 75 million years ago
This is possibly a juvenile "Monoclonius" or
Styracosaurus and includes a specimen of a lower leg (USNM
7957). This specimen was placed on exhibit in 1920.

Visiting paleontologist Brenda Chinnery, from Johns Hopkins
University, is one of many paleontologists who come to the
Smithsonian every year to examine our specimens. She is measuring
and examining Brachyceratops as part of a study of the
Ceratopsia, or horn-faced dinosaurs, to determine their growth
patterns from juvenile to adult sizes. |
